We want a talented project leader to develop and manage the development of the Ensembl project’s automation pipelines and production infrastructure Our infrastructure is under active redevelopment and offers an exciting opportunity for you to be at the forefront of its development and release.
The Ensembl project provides access to annotated genomes, genetic variation data, regulation data and comparative genomics from across the tree of life. We are central to efforts around improving human health, understanding species biodiversity, helping to ensure food security and tackling climate change all using genomic data. We collaborate with world class consortium and other EMBL groups to address these challenges. You will be working within the Ensembl team, which is composed of over 70 people including developers, designers, trainers, engineers, annotators and researchers. The Genomics Technology Infrastructure (GTI) team helps to develop a suite of highly valued scientific resources that support biological research worldwide with millions of visitors per year.
The role is primarily internal facing, though opportunities exist to collaborate with our wider external communities, it requires prior experience of software development in large teams. If this sounds like a project you would want to be involved with, we cannot wait to hear from you.
Your primary focus will be the management and coordination of the Ensembl Automation team and will develop new infrastructure to both process and distribute Ensembl and related project data.
You will work closely with our platforms, web, design and UX teams to deliver our web infrastructure and alongside GTI senior management and others within the Genome Assembly and Annotation section. You will also be tasked with outreach to the Ensembl data teams and key stakeholders when developing new solutions. In this role, you will be tasked with planning our work, executing it and ensuring this is communicated to senior management and to other project leaders within the Ensembl project. You will also be responsible for our existing production and release cycles.
In addition, you will be tasked with scoping new projects in response to grant requirements outlaid by other project and team leaders.
