Infrastructure, Software Engineering Leadership Description:

As a part of the Infrastructure, Software Engineering Leadership you will drive innovation, empower and motivate a team of seasoned engineers in an agile environment. Your technical aptitude will be used to lead the team to create enterprise architecture designs, standard documentation, transition, and migration strategies. The team will draw on your past experience leading software engineering efforts, providing leadership direction, overseeing development projects, product definition through authoring engineering plans, epics and user stories, as well as overall team health and efficiency.

  • A passion for leading development teams in the creation of large, modular, and maintainable code bases
  • Excited by building reliable, self-healing services on unreliable hardware
  • Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers
  • Capable of driving and delivering thin slices of functionality on a regular cadence with data-driven feedback loops in an agile environment

In this role, you will:

  • Establish relationships with peers across Infrastructure and Product Engineering organizations.
  • Maintain healthy collaborative relationships within your team and with adjacent teams while setting a high bar for performance.
  • Hire and retain top talent. Create a learning organization and continuously develop/grow talent on the team.
  • Motivate and align team members to achieve higher levels of success.
  • Set technical direction for the team in collaboration with product owners and participate in scoping work and managing backlog for predictable delivery.
  • Define roadmaps and priorities for growing and scaling infrastructure and associated tooling.
  • Advocate for availability, reliability, security, and scalability of our platform.
  • Define team specific metrics: SLO, SLA, and KPIs.
  • Champion engineering rigor in operational practices by establishing mature development, test, release, and deployment processes that follow recommended SDLC practices.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation and operational excellence.
  • Take initiative to challenge and improve the status quo.

About you:

  • You have 5+ years experience working in a software role.
  • You have 3+ years experience managing software engineering teams in a fast paced, high-growth organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management concepts and techniques.
  • Experienced leading teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • You are an expert in distributed systems management at scale using modern toolsets for configuration management orchestration, build management, testing, hardening, etc.
  • You have a strong understanding of SDLC, functional and object-oriented development practices.
  • You have broad technical knowledge of infrastructure including but not limited to security, network, servers, storage, and databases.
  • You have deep professional experience with incident management, problem management, and change management.
  • You can make decisions and move forward without complete information.
  • You can lead and execute; masterfully managing the big picture and the small details.
